“I am really excited to begin a new club season with Metro. With every year I coach I am more and more humbled by the privilege it is to impact the lives of so many athletes. We have a few new offerings this year that will make our program that much more competitive. I am eager to start the club season and continue to grow the game of volleyball and develop young athletes.”
Jerry Burge will be the Head Coach for our 18 North and 14 Travel teams. Additionally, is our Metro North Director. This will be his 10th season coaching with Metro and 13th season coaching club volleyball. Jerry has been with Metro since it was founded in 2015, during that time he has had many successes with his teams.

Jerry comes with many years of coaching experience including former head coach and assistant coach at the junior college, and high school levels. He is also the head coach at Urbana High School, leading them to a state championship. He competed with the Western Maryland College Club Volleyball team as a setter and team captain. He also competed for several years through USAV Chesapeake Region Men’s Volleyball teams as a setter and libero. Jerry is the father of six beautiful young ladies. He graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s University with an MBA in Business Administration and is currently a Clinical Project Manager at Syneos Health Inc.

Emily enters her third season with Metro. She previously coached 14 & 16 North and will work with 18 North this seaon. is my 3rd season She has been with Urbana High School for 3 years and is the head varsity coach this season.
Emily played for Metro American as a 13 and 14U. After her high school career, she continued to play at Elizabethtown College. She played all 4 years as a right side. Emily received my undergraduate degree in physics and a masters in environmental science from Towson.
She is currently a sustainability analyst for a tech company and has 2 fur babies (cats) Ares and Artemis.

Mandy Blumenauer returns to Metro as the 17 North head coach after starting with the club at it's founding in 2015. This is her fifth year as the head coach of 17N. She has 19 years of coaching/assisting volleyball experience at the club level and public high school, most recently at Middletown High.
Mandy's volleyball experience started in Middle School and continued on where she focused on setting and being an opposite side hitter. She attended College at Philadelphia University where she focused on her education to receive a B.S. in Interior Design.
She continues to play through USAV Chesapeake Region Women's and various rec leagues & outdoor as she is able. Aside from volleyball, Mandy focuses her time as a professional CIDQ Interior Designer, LEED AP. She is currently a Director of Interiors at DBI Architects in Reston, VA, where she has been employed since 2007. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her dog Bode, watching hockey, traveling, spending time with friends & family and enjoying the most out of life. Remember tomorrow is not a guarantee!

This will be Stacey's 7th season coaching with Metro. She has 9 years coaching experience between the high school and club levels.
Stacey started playing volleyball in 7th grade. She made the switch to Metro her sophomore year of high school and played for Metro 16, 17, and 18 Travel. Stacey played high school volleyball at Governor Thomas Johnson HS in Frederick, MD. In her senior season, in 2008, the team finished as runners up in the state championship match.
Stacey went on to play Division I volleyball at Towson University as a defensive specialist/libero. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Towson University in 2013 and her Master’s degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology from UMBC in 2018. Stacey is currently the Human Resources Manager for a construction company in Frederick, MD. Stacey also lives in Frederick with her husband, Kyle, and dog, Sailor.

Justin returns to Metro for his second season. Previously, he served as the assistant coach for both the 14 North team and the 15 North teams. He is also currently serving as the Technical Coordinator for the Women's Volleyball program at the University of Maryland. He works with the staff on scouting, manage video and statistical analysis, and providing data reports to support both player and team development.
in the 2024 club season, he helped lead 14 North to three top-finishes at the AAU Virginia Beach Grand Prix, the 2024 CHRVA Non-Bid Regionals, the South Atlantic Championships (Open Division), and two regional tournaments in both mixed and open levels.
In 2023 he assistant ed the Urbana High School team through coaching as well as lead strength and conditioning coach for the volleyball team.
He graduated from Salisbury University in 2022 with his B.S. in Exercise Science with a minor in biology and psychology. During his studies, he became interested in biomechanics and sports performance earning a ACSM Exercise Physiologist Certification. He is able to apply his experience and knowledge of these principles in coaching, focusing on playing efficiency, proper technique, and injury prevention.
A 2022 graduated from Salisbury University, he earned a B.S. in Exercise Science and ACSM Exercise Physiologist certification. While at Salisbury University, he competed in track and field, earning All-Conference honors and being named the 2022 NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year.
Outside of volleyball, Justin serves as the assistant girls' track coach at Urbana High School, specializing in hurdles, sprints, and relays. He has helped lead two individual state champions and eleven national qualifiers. As well as the team in the indoor and outdoor county & regional championships, fourth at indoor states, and second at outdoor states, while breaking eight long-standing school records!

Minh Pho returns as the 15 North head coach. In the past, Minh has had experience coaching at the 15s, 16s, and 18s levels for club as well as at the high level.
Minh’s joined Metro in 202 and has lead his past teams to great success including pushing the teams to be competitive at the Open level.
Minh graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.S. in Physics w/a Secondary Education concentration and from Stevenson University with a M.A. in Teaching. He currently teaches Human Body Systems and Honors Physics at Wheaton High School in Montgomery County. Minh also works as a NCAA Line Judge during the fall season. He has had experience line judging for both D1 and D3 schools in the area for the regular season and regional playoffs.

Niki is coming back for her second season as the assistant coach for Metro 15 North. She was previously the assistant coach for 15 North in the 2022-23 season alongside Minh Pho.
Niki began playing volleyball the summer of 2008 throughout high school including playing club for metro her sophomore year & has since played on several women’s & co-ed leagues. She primarily plays middle & outside.
She graduated from Salisbury University in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing & currently works in financial planning/ wealth management for Butera Wealth Management by LPL Financial. In her spare time Niki enjoys doing outdoor activities, traveling and spending time with her friends & family.

Claudia is in her 20th year of coaching volleyball. She started with Metro American VBC in 2005 and then transitioned to Metro Volleyball Club in 2015, where she has worked with the 16s, 15s, 14s, 13s and 10s age groups in the North region.
Coach Laps was the Head Varsity Volleyball coach at Urbana HS in Frederick County from 2005-2011 (MD State Semifinalists, 2009), Assistant Varsity Volleyball coach at The Academy of the Holy Cross (Kensington, MD) from 2012-2014 (WCAC champions, 2012-2014), and Head Volleyball coach at Washington Christian Academy (Olney, MD) from 2015-2016. After 2 seasons officiating Frederick County HS volleyball, she returned to HS coaching as the Head JV coach at Urbana HS for one season and then back to the officiating stand for one more year, where she had the best seat in the house, seeing many of her Metro alumni on the court and in the stands.
Claudia earned a B.S. in Biology from Virginia Tech, where she played club volleyball all 4 years, and still competes in USA Volleyball in the women's division, as well as 50+ seniors volleyball at the National Senior Games and the Huntsman Senior World Championships. She is IMPACT certified, Gold Medal Squared trained and proud to be a 3-Dimensional Coach trained by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), coaching FCA Power Camps in Frederick County, MD and Kutztown, PA, as well as character coaching for sports teams in Frederick County.
When she is not coaching volleyball, Claudia works full-time as a Sales Coach with Thermo Fisher Scientific, enjoys being an avid golfer, lifting and cycling, as well as spending time helping care for her elders and teaching Faith Formation at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. She has been married to Randy for 31 glorious years and is a proud mother of two: Stefan (Solutions Engineer) and Cassie (Program Manager).

Alexis returns to Metro for her third season as a coach and also an Alumni!
Alexis played as a pin hitter for both her club team and at Urbana high school. She continued her volleyball career at Frederick Community College for 2 years before transferring to Towson University. She competed on the club team at Towson and still continues to play in women’s league around Frederick County as an adult.
Alexis came back to Metro as a head coach for 13 North for 2022 & 2023 season and is now happy to be the 14 North assistant coach along with her old high school coach.

Phillip returns to Metro for his second season as the head coach for 13 North. He has coached on and off over the last 25 years in several clubs and with the US Air Force while he was in the military. He enjoys watching all levels of volleyball. Phillip earned his BA in Secondary Education and Spanish from Dana College in Blair NE where he picked up his love of beach volleyball. He also has a Master's in Sports Coaching.
He continues to play volleyball indoors as a middle and outdoors (grass and beach). Phillip is retired from the US Air Force and currently works for US Cyber Command in Global Force Management. When he is not coaching, he is a avid Disney enthusiast and disc golfer. He is married to Brena for 17 Years, and they are raising two incredible children, Lyla and Gabriel who both play volleyball!

This will be Logan's second season coaching 13 North. Logan is a Metro Alumni. She played for Metro North for as both a setter and middle hitter. She currently attends Montgomery College, where she studies Biochemistry and plays as a middle hitter. Logan also spent a year at Hood College as a middle hitter.
When she isn't playing volleyball, she likes to dance and read.

I look forward to helping the next group of young athletes to develop their skills, train hard and achieve their goals."
Diane enters her 3rd season coaching with Metro and her 8th season coaching club volleyball. As the head coach of 12 North, she has lead her teams to several medal finishes as well as strong season records!
In the 2024 season => finished with a 30-12 record, successfully making it to the Gold bracket in every tournament and medaling at 4 of them – MVSA 12 Mixed, JVA Charm City, AAU Virginia Beach Grand Prix and South Atlantic Championship.
In the 2023 season => finished with a 37-7 record, successfully making it to the Gold bracket in every tournament and medaling at 6 of them – MVSA 12 Mixed, JVA Charm City, Capitol Hill Classic, AAU Virginia Beach Grand Prix, CHRVA Regional Championship (non-bid) and South Atlantic Championship.
Diane is also the head coach of the women’s varsity volleyball team at Saint James School in Hagerstown, MD. She began her volleyball career at Boonsboro High School and went on to play at the collegiate level as a setter at Hagerstown Community College and then the University of South Carolina Upstate.
Diane graduated with a B.S. degree in Computer Science / Applied Mathematics and she is currently retired and living in Boonsboro with her husband and their three children.

Reagan enters her first year coaching for Metro. She began playing for Metro North at age 11 and continued playing for the North teams for most of her club carrier. While on 18 North, Reagen helped lead the team to a bid to the USAV Girls Junior National Championships! Reagan played 3 years of varsity volleyball and graduated from Linganore High school.
Regan attending Towson University where she played on the Women's club volleyball team and acted as the team treasurer and social media chair. Regan recently graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.

Jean is excited to return to Metro this year as the Head Coach for the NEW Metro 11 North Team. Last year, as the Metro 12 North Assistant Coach, Jean supported the team in growth, bringing home 4 medals, and getting into the Gold Bracket in every tournament. Previously, Jean has coached youth rec league, 11u club, and 12u club teams. In the 2022-2023 club season, her 11u club team won CHRVA's Non-Bid Regional Championship.
Jean is currently the JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach at Clarksburg High School.
Jean graduated from University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor's and master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education. She currently works for Montgomery County Public Schools as a Special Education Parent Educator in the Preschool Education Program and resides in Clarksburg, MD with her husband, Phil and their children, Kirsten and Tre.

Alex is entering her first season with Metro, coaching the youngest team. She began playing club volleyball at 13 and continued to play for 5 more years. After transferring to Magruder High School in her freshman year, she played as a defensive specialist before becoming the starting libero and a captain in her junior and senior years. Continuing her volleyball journey, Alex played as a libero at Montgomery College, where they went undefeated, 26-0, losing only three sets the entire season! This was the first perfect season in the history of Montgomery College Volleyball. Alex contributed to her team’s success in winning the 2018 MDJUCO Title, the Raptors Invitational Tournament, and the Dragon Invitational Title. Passionate about the sport, she plays competitively and recreationally, both indoors and outdoors. She looks forward to building strong foundations and inspiring the next generation of athletes to reach their full potential!
