Growing up in Montgomery County, MD Gena started playing volleyball at the age of 12. Quickly she realized how much she loved the sport and started playing for her High School, Thomas Wootton High School, and for a local club program, MVSA. As a high school Senior she earned All-Montgomery Gazette Player of the Year and the First Team Washington Post All-Extra, and Second Team All-Met. She was recruited by St. Mary’s College of Maryland and played for Morris Davis for four years. During this time she was selected to All - CAC Team as a Junior and as a Senior received honors as twice as All CAC Player of the Week and again was selected to the All - CAC Team as a Senior.
