“I couldn’t be any happier to have the opportunity to be back here with Silvia and the Metro volleyball family.  Silvia and her coaches have made the Washington D.C./ DMV area one of the nation’s best hot beds for collegiate volleyball talent and I am nothing short of excited to be part of that.  I  am looking forward to having a lot of fun and helping prepare these student athletes for the next level.”

 

 

In 2009, Yates spent the fall season as a graduate assistant at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif. in the athletics department while in pursuit of is master’s degree. While in California Yates spent three years as a coach and the assistant director of operations at Complete Athlete Inc.; TCA Volleyball Club in Newport Beach, California. While at TCA, Yates had the opportunity to coach and train players at all levels including scholarship athletes that went on to play collegiately in conferences such as the PAC-12, ACC, SEC, and the IVY league. Along with coaching Yates also played a vital role with the administration in the expansion of TCA Volleyball club to one of the biggest in the country at that time with over 1000 students athletes participating on a yearly basis.

 

Yates earned a bachelor of arts in Business and Economics from Emmanuel College in Boston, Mass. in 2006 and later completed a M.A. in Athletic Administration and Coaching from Concordia in 2010. He played volleyball at Emmanuel from 2002-06.  Yates was a member of the inaugural Men's Volleyball team at Emmanuel College in 2002-2006. During his career with the Saints, Yates was a three-time All-Conference selection and became Emmanuel's first player to surpass 1,000 career kills.

 

Steve currently works in the Pharmaceutical Industry and lives in Silver Spring with his wife Kristin.
